DIABETES SELF-MANAGEMENT EDUCATION

Take Control of your Diabetes

Are you at risk for Diabetes?

People with pre-diabetes have blood sugar levels higher than normal. They are more likely to develop diabetes in 10 years or have a heart attack or stroke.  Lifestyle changes can prevent or delay Type 2 Diabetes.

What is Diabetes?

Diabetes is an illness that does not allow your body to use food correctly.  Normally, the foods you eat turn into sugar (glucose). Insulin is used to get energy from the food you eat. In diabetes, this does not happen and results in high levels of sugar in the blood.
Why you may need Diabetes Education or Pre-Diabetes Education:

  • You are trying to prevent diabetes
  • You have just been diagnosed with diabetes
  • Your diabetes is out of control especially if A1c is equal or greater than 8
  • Your blood sugars are increasing
  • You are developing vision loss, kidney problems, or other problems from diabetes
  • It has been more than two years since you had diabetes education classes
